Lacham

What does Lacham mean?

 Lacham: To fight, overcome, prevail in Battle.

לָחַם (Strong’s 3898) frames the realities of conflict in the Old Testament—physical, national, personal, and spiritual. The verb is found in every historical era of Israel’s story, from patriarchal skirmishes to prophetic visions of the Day of the LORD, and appears in

virtually every literary genre. The breadth of its use (about 177 occurrences) shows a people whose

life with God was forged in battle, yet whose victories ultimately depended on Him.

לָחַם encapsulates the tension between human responsibility and divine sovereignty. Israel’s account teaches that victory is granted, not merely earned;

it is secured by the LORD who fights for

His people and culminates in the ultimate triumph foreseen by the prophets.

Scriptural Examples of Lacham:

Exodus 14:13-14 And Mosheh said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the deliverance of יהוה, which He does for you today. For the Mitsrites whom you see today, you are never, never to see again. 14“יהוה does fight for you, and you keep silent.”

Deuteronomy 1:30 ‘יהוה your Elohim, who is going before you, He does fight for you, according to all He did for you in Mitsrayim before your eyes,

Joshua 10:14 And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that יהוה listened to the voice of a man, because יהוה fought for Yisra’ěl.

1 Samuel 17:32 And Dawiḏ said to Sha’ul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him, your servant is going, and shall fight with this Philistine.”

2 Chronicles 32:8 “With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is יהוה our Elohim, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people leaned on the words of Ḥizqiyahu sovereign of Yehuḏah.
